Union Pacific Railroad to Upgrade Rail Lines Through Calvert
Calvert, TX – The City of Calvert has been notified by Union Pacific Railroad of upcoming rail improvement work that will upgrade all six railroad crossings within the city limits. The upgrades are part of Union Pacific’s ongoing infrastructure improvement efforts to ensure the safety and efficiency of their rail service in the region.
According to Scott Gaddy of Union Pacific Railroad, the rail replacement project is scheduled to occur between August 23 and August 26. Work will take place in two phases, during which crossings will be temporarily closed to allow crews to remove old rails and install new ones.
Crossing Schedule
• Phase 1: Browning Street, Wharton Street, Barton Street
• Phase 2: Burnett Street, Hanna Street, Gregg Street
Each phase will involve three crossings closed at a time for approximately two days each to ensure safe and efficient completion of the work. We have not been made aware of which group of crossings will be first.
Union Pacific will deliver all necessary materials and equipment by rail, including traffic barriers and signage. Exact staging areas for their supplies and machinery are still being determined.
Community and Public Safety Coordination
City officials are coordinating closely with Union Pacific to minimize disruption to residents and to maintain access for patrol, fire, and emergency services. City Administrator Sergio Loya has requested a site visit from Union Pacific’s project supervisor prior to the start of work to ensure appropriate coordination and communication with all local departments.
“This upgrade will bring significant long-term benefits to the safety and reliability of the rail system through Calvert,” said City Manager Sergio Loya. “We appreciate the community’s patience as Union Pacific completes this important work.”
Residents are encouraged to plan alternate routes and exercise caution near construction zones. Updated information will be provided as the project schedule is finalized.
For more information, please contact City Hall at (979) 364-2888 or Union Pacific Railroad at (918) 351-4123.
